Who is this course for?
This qualification is suitable for learners aged 18 and over, who are currently employed as an early years Level 3 practitioner.
It would be an ideal development programme for learners who are looking to develop leadership and specialist skills for use in their current role, or in preparation to take on a specialist role such as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator or a Physical Activity and Nutrition Coordinator.
Course Description
This course has five units, providing the opportunity to build on your existing early year’s knowledge and understanding, and develop skills that will promote quality, encourage leadership, prepare you for management responsibilities and allow for growth in coaching and mentoring others.

This is the perfect course to help students hone their skills to prepare them for further study at a higher level, within the specific sector of early years.
It would also suit learners who want to progress to further learning to take on a position of leadership within the setting.
You can start this part–time programme flexibly at any time during the year with an expectation that you will complete within 12 months of starting.
This is a part–time self–directed study programme with a maximum of one year’s study.
The programme will be offered as either flexible self–directed study and/or five knowledge workshops of three hours dependent on group size. Attendance at College is not pre–required as the qualification can be delivered within the workplace. Current awarding body guidance states 7–10 hours of independent study is required per week.
Teaching and Assessment
Internal assessment approach: a work–based Portfolio of Evidence arranged to reflect application of theoretical knowledge in practice with clear expectations of engagement with statutory frameworks.
Progression Opportunities
This qualification provides progression to a Level 5 such as the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services.
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years of age. You need to be employed in an early years setting and working as a Level 3 Practitioner.
