Who is this course for?
This bridging programme is ideal if your ambition is to work within the nuclear engineering or scientific sectors. It is suitable for those looking to progress onto a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship, or Higher Education. You may have an alternative engineering qualification, or have finished other Level 3 qualifications and be keen to work in the nuclear sector.
This one year programme is delivered by University Centre Somerset at the recently built National College for Nuclear (southern hub) based in Cannington. This new state-of-the-art facility includes a reactor simulator and virtual reality training environment.
Working with industry partners such as EDF Energy ensures the training provides a unique world-class experience that develops the skills needed in this high profile, technical and demanding sector. Work experience is an essential element to the programme, expanding your understanding of the sector and working environment.

This study programme provides the opportunity to progress onto a Higher or Degree Level Apprenticeship in Nuclear or, combined with your previous Level 3 qualifications, into Higher Education.
You need five GCSE grades A* to C or 9 to 4, including Mathematics (Higher) or above. Alternatively, an appropriate Level 2 with an overall Merit which includes Maths and Science. You will also need a Level 3 qualification that could include A Levels, Engineering or other subject to Merit level.
Cost is free for 16 - 18 year olds.
