College raises £866 for Comic Relief with make-up and beans!

Students and staff at Somerset College, Taunton, raised £866 for Comic Relief when they did everything from creative make-up and wacky hairstyles for shoppers in the town’s Orchard Centre, to a sponsored eating of cold baked beans.

Media Make-up students based at the Orchard Centre raised over £450 when they helped passers-by to look the part for Comic Relief, with all kinds of hair and make-up, at a charge of £1 a time or even £5 if they wanted to look really glamorous.

Children’s book character Where’s Wally with his red and white stripes featured largely as students on the First Diploma in Childcare course dressed up as Wally and raised nearly £60, while the Students Union sold cup cakes and raised over £60, also dressed as a Wally character.

Staff in Library Services dressed in eye-catching red costumes and raised nearly £120 through selling donated books; Step Up Childcare student Danielle Plimmer managed to eat her way through a pint of cold baked beans to raise £28; Sports and Public Services students raised £79 through a Wheelchair Basketball contest - and a host of other activities ranged from Playstation games to selling clothes and cakes.
