Design students at top London show
Students from Somerset College in Taunton impressed the professionals recently when they were invited as one of only two colleges to exhibit at the Surface Design Show in London.
The Show, held at the Business Design Centre, is the leading professional event for architects and interior designers to find innovative surface solutions for the built environment.
Organisers saw the BA (Hons) Interior Textiles and Surface Design students’ work at the London graduate design show New Designers last year, and were so impressed they offered them a free exhibition space - even though the Show is mostly just for professionals.
Thirteen students and their lecturers attended the event – and organisers were so impressed they have already booked the College a stand for next year.
“We were one of only two colleges at this trade show and so the visitors were serious buyers and journalists,” said Neil Musson, Lecturer in Surface Design.
The group consisted of Third Year university degree course students as well as last year’s graduates and they learnt an enormous amount in planning and preparing for the Show.
