Fashion set to take Taunton by storm
Somerset College’s Textiles and Fashion department is set to take Taunton by storm with a day of fabulous professional catwalk shows and a glamorous gala evening event on Saturday September 25.
The College is teaming up with the recently refurbished Orchard Shopping Centre to create the spectacular event including five free daytime shows.
The Orchard Seasons Fashion Show, to be held at the Orchard Centre in the heart of the town, will showcase stunning outfits designed by the College’s BA (Hons) Textiles and Fashion graduates, plus the latest high street offerings from some of the Centre’s top retailers.
Five daytime fashion shows with professional models will feature themes covering autumn and winter trends from the Orchard Centre retailers, as well as a lunchtime Somerset College Graduate Fashion Show – a preview of the invitation only gala evening event.
“The College is highly regarded by the local community and these events show what excellence can be achieved through working together,” said Imelda Hughes, Head of Textiles, Fashion and Design at the College.
All the shows are being professionally choreographed by renowned fashion show producer Lesley Goring of London, who has worked with fashion and style guru Gok Wan, Zandra Rhodes, and the London Graduate Fashion Week.
The models’ hair is being styled by Celebrity Hairdresser of the Year Jamie Stevens, a former Somerset College student who has gone on to the top of the hairdressing world, with celebrity clients and TV shows including Gok’s Fashion Fix and How To Look Good Naked.
The models’ make-up is being done by The Body Shop and Somerset College’s Media Make-up department staff and students.
Seventeen specially trained students from Bishop Fox’s Community School will also join the professionals on the catwalk to model Orchard Centre retailers’ clothes for youngsters.
The evening invitation-only gala event will feature professionals modelling student designs recently showcased at a major graduate fashion show in London’s Brick Lane, plus a selection from Orchard Centre retailers.
All events are being funded by the Orchard Centre with sponsorship from Wellington-based Chelston Motorhomes. Money raised at the evening event will go to the Have A Heart charity for children with terminal illness.
Daytime fashion shows open to the public are timetabled for 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm (Orchard Centre retailers) and 1.30pm (Somerset College Graduate Fashion Show).
