Hats off to our Graduates!
The day celebrated the success and hard work of Somerset College degree students who completed qualifications in a diverse range of subjects such as Computer Games Technology, Fashion Design, Media Make-up and Health & Social Care.
Representatives from the educational authorities that validate the College’s degree programmes confirmed the awards. These included Mark Stone, Head of UK Partnerships at Plymouth University, Liz Kemp, Deputy Director (Partnerships) representing The Open University, Viv Howells, Regional Quality Manager at Pearson Edexcel and James Burge, Business Manager from City & Guilds.
College alumni Paul Harrison who set up Harrison & Co Design and Mark Conway, Specialist CAMHS Social Worker, also gave inspirational speeches to the assembled graduates and their families. The ceremonies culminated with votes of thanks from First Class Honour graduates Katie Jordan, who achieved a BA (Hons) in Media Make-up, and Sharon Warner who was awarded a BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies.
After the traditional hat throw inside the church, graduates and their friends and family were invited back the College’s Conference Centre for drinks and canapés. There was also the opportunity to enjoy a celebration meal at the College’s award winning Quantock Restaurant, with a menu designed and prepared by Professional Cookery students.
“The Graduation is a wonderful event where all the hard work of our students is recognised and celebrated by their peers, friends and families.” said Rachel Davies, Principal of Somerset College, ”We are proud of their achievements and excited for them as they launch careers in their specialist industries. We wish them all the best for their futures.”
