Hats off to our graduates

Over 700 students, family and friends gathered in Taunton recently for the annual University Graduation Ceremony of Somerset College.

Morning and afternoon ceremonies were held at the Temple Methodist Church, Taunton, to celebrate students’ achievements, and over 300 students and staff in academic gowns then proceeded through the town centre to celebrate at Somerset County Cricket Club.

“Somerset College in partnership with the University of Plymouth delivers high quality vocational university degree programmes and this was a wonderful opportunity to say how proud we are of our students’ achievements as they go on to successful careers,” said Rachel Davies, Principal of the College.

The two ceremonies were held for the Somerset College School of Art and Design students and those graduating in a range of other degrees and Higher Education qualifications from Engineering to Health and Social Care.

The ceremonies were watched by hundreds of relatives and friends and Bill Rammell, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth University, conferred the awards.

An Honorary Master of Business degree was also awarded to Chris Bishop, formerly a Director of Wessex Water plc and Chief Financial Officer of the worldwide technology services Achilles Group. He is a former Governor and Chairman of Somerset College’s Board of Governors and is trustee of a number of local organisations.
