Iranian student to to take part in London catwalk show
Fashion undergraduates from Somerset College, including Tara Farbahi from Iran, are to show their sensational collections at the College's own catwalk show during London Graduate Fashion Week.
Tara studies BA (Hons) Design (Fashion) at Somerset College and will be one of 19 designers from the College who are showing their collections at the internationally renowned fashion week.
Tara's collection is inspired by Persian architecture and has created a sculptural couture garment.
Tara said: ‘I am really excited about London Graduate Fashion Week. It is a massive opportunity to show my collection in front of the fashion world and hopefully get noticed by the industry.
‘I love my collection, it looks stunning and will look great on the catwalk under the lights and set to music. All of our collections look great, and I am sure it will be a fabulous show.'
The students will attempt to beat more than 1,000 students to the £20,000 River Island Gold Award top prize. But for many, it is the chance to display their collections in front of the fashion world that is the real prize.
This is the ninth year that Somerset College have been selected to have their own show at the highly competitive London Graduate Fashion Week.
Fashion tutor, Gary Mills said: ‘Although we are only a small college, we are proud to have our own show on the main catwalk with other major fashion institutions including London College of Fashion, Manchester Metropolitan and Northumbria universities.
‘Year on year the students' work looks fabulous on the main catwalk. We have a proud history of winning major awards including in 2007, the Visionary Knitwear award at London Graduate Fashion Week and Young Designer of the Year at Clothes Show Live and in 2008 gold medals at EuroSkills. This year's graduates are just as talented. As young designers they will display their garments in front of the fashion world with great success. It is the launch-pad for their careers.'
Somerset College's show at London Graduate Fashion Week takes place on Tuesday 9 June at 4pm at Earls Court 2 in London. For more information visit the London Graduate Fashion Week website.
