Somerset students to be Best in Show
Somerset College’s first ever Arts and Design Festival “Best in Show” will take place on Saturday 20 June and will be opening in three different venues across Taunton.
The festival includes work from graduating students studying on further education and degree courses at the College, and will include exclusive screenings the Somerset College Fashion show recorded live at London Graduate Fashion Week as well as static exhibitions of work by the regions next generation of designers.
The day will celebrate the successes of Arts and Design students, studying graphic design, 3D design, fashion, textile design and fine art, with opportunities for visitors to talk to students about their work and tutors about studying at the College for a career in the Creative Industries.
Somerset College’s Arts and Design Festival will be officially opened by the Mayor of Taunton Deane at 12:15pm, followed by a “Best in Show” Awards Ceremony for National Diploma students.
Students’ collections will be exhibited at the College’s Arts and Design Centre, The Genesis Centre and The Brewhouse Theatre Gallery. The Atrium of the College will host a unique exhibition of work by the College’s Foundation Degree in Media Make-up students, many of whom go on to enviable careers in film, television and theatre.
Head of Arts and Design, Chris Taylor, said: ‘This is a wonderful celebratory event to which everyone is invited and will contribute to Taunton’s lively arts and cultural profile. We have some of the most creative students in the West Country, many of whom, following graduation, start up their own businesses in the county. We are really proud to promote their talents to industry and the wider community.’
The festival is part of Somerset College’s Arts and Design Degree and Diploma Show that runs until Thursday 25 June. The shows are open daily (apart from Sunday) from 10 until 5:30 at the College.
