Taunton Deane Dragon arrives at Somerset College
One of the first Taunton Deane Dragons has been delivered to Somerset College’s main Wellington Road campus.
The dragon is part of a creative arts project being run by the council throughout the town. It will be one of many on display over coming months, with each dragon sporting a unique design.
When it comes to the Somerset College dragon, the art work will be created by Art & Design students working towards qualifications at the College. They have been invited to submit their designs, and the winning entry will be painted onto the dragon during the College’s annual Art Show, from 9 to 13 June, 2014.
Speaking about the project, deputy head of Art & Design Matt Cox said: “The students are really excited about this project, and we’re looking forward to seeing some really creative designs that will inevitably cover many of the functions that are studied at College. These run from painting through to surface design.
“Through initiatives such as this,” he continued, “we are able to give our students working briefs and projects that not only reflect and encourage their creativity, but also support fundraising initiatives for the local community.”
