Textiles designer takes on the Italian Job
Somerset College Fashion Textiles undergraduate Fabia Zanchi was selected to represent the College in the recent Como competition organised by the Italian Textiles Federation.
The Federation commissioned British textiles undergraduates to produce printed textiles for scarves, fashion fabrics and ties. Fabia, who studies BA (Hons) Design (Fashion Textiles), was selected to go forward to the London final where she displayed her scarf, tie and other samples.
Fabia said: ‘The Italians are style leaders, there are so many great Italian designers including Giorgio Armani and Donatella Versace. It was a really interesting competition as I was up against students from lots of other universities, and we were all twinned with different Italian towns.’
Fabia was also selected to take part in the Textprint UK final in London last week win the chance to display her collection in the Textprint exhibition in Paris.
Fabia was joined by Nina Walker, Sophie Shaw and Diana Matveeva, who all study BA (Hons) Design (Fashion Textiles), in reaching the final of Textprint.
Nina said: ‘My designs take their influence from India and Hinduism. They are a collection of prints that have been digitally printed and include images of Indian Rupees. I was really pleased that four of us managed to get through to the final in London, it was an amazing experience.’
