Top Marks! Top Ideas!

Innovative new business ideas were churning away in the minds of students recently following a competition launched by Somerset College, with a high-achieving recent graduate coming out on top.

Budding entrepreneur Charlotte Howlett won a brand new Ipad for her hard thinking and creative entry to the new business idea competition.

Charlotte, who graduated this year from Somerset College with a First-class BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies, decided that if she were going to open a business tomorrow then it would be a cafe aimed at expectant parents and parents/guardians of children aged under two.

Her idea came about through her own research and her degree course when it became clear, after working with several families, that new and young parents in particular can feel isolated and are often afraid of voicing their concerns or fears. Charlotte’s idea would create a relaxed, informal cafe environment where parents could eat and drink and book onto child-related courses.
