We’re proud to employ some of the best HE tutors in the country and they’re all committed to helping you realise your ambitions and our graduates go on to work in a range of industries in both the private and public sectors. Some work for themselves, whilst others join large corporations looking to make an impact and progress their career.

Whatever your ambitions, a degree course at here will help you realise them. We’ll be with you every step of the way as you seek to improve your knowledge, skills and employability.

Why choose Us?

With a 97 per cent pass rate, it’s no surprise that our students have gone on to work at some of the country’s most prestigious employers. The list includes the BBC, Fat Face, Holmes and Marchant, Vivienne Westwood, Honda and Selfridges.

Long-term career success isn’t the only thing we offer, however. In addition, we provide a large portfolio of courses supported by state-of-the-art facilities - all set within a lively and stimulating campus environment.

What’s more, with a growing reputation throughout the country as an innovative and forward-thinking HE provider, we are proud to put Somerset on the map as a place to study for a degree.

We firmly believe that a university education is about more than just studying for a degree. It’s also about enjoying an active social life, with plenty to stimulate you when you’re away from the classroom.

Taunton provides a great destination for student life. It’s the largest town in Somerset, with a vibrant shopping centre and a busy and varied night life. It’s also a safe place to live and study, offering easy access to some of the UK’s most breath-taking scenery.

Students’ Union

We have an active Students’ Union, with its own Higher Education President and a welfare officer, events officer and finance officer.

This team works together to ensure our students have a great experience. They regularly canvas student opinions on important matters and arrange dynamic social programmes, including the annual freshers’ fair, balls, parties and regular fundraising events.

Student community

Study for a degree at here and you’ll never feel bored. Thanks to our range of clubs and societies, there is always something to help stimulate and inspire, including sports such as football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, netball, dance and trampolining.

The University common room is a hub of activity. It provides a great place to relax, exchange opinions with fellow students and enjoy the social life that comes with HE study. It has its own food bar, free Wi-Fi access, computer games and a wide-screen TV.

Study facilities

Our HE Study Centres provides degree-level students with a range of resources. These include PC and Apple Mac computers, printers, photocopiers, reference books, eBooks, electronic resources, periodicals, DVDs, CDs and past theses.

The centre offers accessibility facilities, as well as hire equipment such as laptops, cameras, and camcorders. It also provides a quiet workspace, an area for group work and a presentation room.

In short, it’s here that you’ll find everything you need to make the most of your time as an HE student at Somerset College.

Halls of Residence

For many, university study is an opportunity to experience the independence and freedom that comes from living in a hall of residence.

We have halls in Taunton and Cannington, set in the midst of tranquil parkland, within easy reach of the relevant Centre and town.

Canonsgrove, in Taunton, provides purpose-built accommodation for up to 192 students. The en-suite study bedrooms are grouped into clusters of six or seven, which share a well-equipped kitchen/diner. They are fully furnished, and Wi-Fi broadband is available throughout the building.

In Cannington there are 116 rooms. Priority is given to those on a land based, or specialised course and those who live outside a 30 mile radius of the centre.

For further details about Canonsgrove, visit our student accommodation page, and for Cannington please click here.
