Why choose Somerset College?
With a 97 per cent pass rate, it’s no surprise that our students have gone on to work at some of the country’s most prestigious employers. The list includes the BBC, Fat Face, Holmes and Marchant, Vivienne Westwood, Honda and Selfridges.
Long-term career success isn’t the only thing we offer, however. In addition, we provide a lively and stimulating environment in which to study, and a large portfolio of courses that ensures there is something for everyone to get their teeth into.
What’s more, with a growing reputation throughout the country as an innovative and forward-thinking HE provider, we are proud to put Somerset on the map as a place to study for a degree.
We firmly believe that a university education is about more than just studying for a degree. It’s also about enjoying an active social life, with plenty to stimulate you when you’re away from the classroom.
Taunton provides a great destination for student life. It’s the largest town in Somerset, with a vibrant shopping centre and a busy and varied night life. But it’s also a safe place to live and study, and offers great access to some of the UK’s most breath-taking scenery.
Somerset College has an active Students’ Union, with its own Higher Education President and a welfare officer, events officer and finance officer.
This team works together, ensuring our students have a great experience of College life. They regularly canvas student opinions on important matters and arrange of dynamic social programme that includes the annual freshers’ fair, balls and parties, and regular fundraising events.
Study for a degree at Somerset College and you’ll never feel bored. Thanks to our range of clubs and societies, there is always something to stimulate and inspire, including sports such as football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, netball, dance and trampolining.
The University common room is a hub of activity. It provides a great place to relax, exchange opinions with fellow students and enjoy the social life that comes with HE study. It has its own food bar, free Wi-Fi access, computer games and a wide-screen TV.
Our HE Study Centre provides degree-level students with a range of resources. These include PC and Apple Mac computers, printers, photocopiers, reference books, eBooks, electronic resources, periodicals, DVDs, CDs and past theses.
The centre offers accessibility facilities, as well as hire equipment like laptops, cameras, and camcorders. It also provides a quiet workspace, an area for group work and a presentation room.
In short, it’s here that you’ll find everything you need to make the most of your time as an HE student at Somerset College.
