I first came to Somerset College of Arts and Technology when I left school having studied Art, I was also elected as the Student Treasurer. I then went on to study HND Graphic Design at Falmouth School of Art.
Upon leaving Somerset, I have worked in London and Moscow within the media and entertainment industry, but on my return to Somerset, I decided to have a change in career and needed to retrain to be able to enter a more medical and caring profession.
So I returned to Somerset College of Arts and Technology last year to study Access to Health/Science, AS Psychology, GCSE Maths, English and Human Physiology. During the course, I decided that I wanted to become a psychologist, so applied to various psychology degrees. I was offered a number of places, including Bath Spa University, University of West of England and Somerset College of Art and Technology. I accepted the place at Somerset College of Art and Technology, as I had found the staff and lecturers extremely helpful and it meant that I did not need to commute. It also enabled me to undertake a Certificate in Counselling Skills and Certificate in Counselling Studies, whilst studying FdA Applied Psychology. I have also been elected as the course representative for both my courses and am a Peer Mentor.

Somerset College has changed my perspective on my life, I wanted to join the army and become a photographer, but when I didn’t do so well at Richard Huish college I decided that graphic design was the way forward into my future life and career.
A member of staff approached me about the FE Presidency and I wanted to make positive changes within the college so I took up the role. The Student Union and myself would like to create an image for the Union, which we will get the entire college to contribute.
My personal goal is to make sure that all the students know and can come to the Student Union for anything they might need. I hope you have a good year.

I chose Somerset College because it allowed me to take my life in an entirely new direction after receiving my A-level results and realising that an entirely academic route didn't appeal to me. After some frantic searching I found a prospectus for Somerset College that my brother had used to make his decision, and I was amazed by the standard of the Arts department. Everything else clicked into place and I realised that instead of French and Italian at University, I'd rather be doing a design based course. And although being one of the oldest on my course it didn't seem to matter, we're all treated the same.
Becoming the Events Officer was an invitation that came completely out of the blue. I wasn't planning on applying for it but I'm glad I did. Not only does it allow me to organise parties and events for students to "let their hair down", it also presents me with the opportunity to organise charity events, and to raise awareness and money for them. That being said, it won't be a one man mission, as every member of the student community is a valued member of the Student Union as well."
