Music Production HND

Course Overview

Within this course you have the option to specialise with either a performance or technology focus.

This course is designed for students who are looking for a career in the music industry and have a strong interest in music performance, music composition and production. The course aims to give students a range of both practical and theoretical skills that can be utilised in music performance, music technology and music education.

Work-based learning and experience is embedded into the course. Local employers are involved in industry-based projects where possible, contributing to the studio and live sound production projects. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their performance events management and live music production skills at the McMillan Theatre, and to create, market and distribute their music on our student-run record label, Brainworks Records.

Kane Train, Music Production

We have access to brilliant equipment, including state-of-the-art production and mastering studios and a 300 capacity commercial theatre complex that not many other universities are able to provide. Teaching is in small groups, giving us loads of contact time with tutors. I feel as if the course is giving me everything I need to fulfil my ambition of running my own successful record label.

Assessment

Assessment Methods

Coursework is an important element in the assessment of the course and a large variety of assignments are used, depending upon the subject. Assessment methods will include performances and practical assessments, oral presentations, creative production tasks, practical and written technical reports.

Entry Requirements and Progression

Progression

This Music Production programme offers access to a wide range of professions within the music industry as well as opportunities for further study at BA (Hons) level at other institutions. Previous students have gone on to work for companies including M5 Audio, Films@59 and Cygnus Music.

Entry Requirements

Typically entrants will possess:

  • A minimum of 64 UCAS tariff points from a full Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area
  • At least four GCSEs including English and maths, or Level 2 equivalent.

Applicants will also need to attend an interview, and provide a portfolio.

Mature applicants with relevant experience who do not have the stated entry requirements are encouraged to apply.

Fees

The course fee is £7800.00* per year of study.
