Following a Level 5 Nursing Associate pilot which launched in 2017, UCS has successfully trained over 100 Nursing Associates who have progressed to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and are now delivering much needed patient care throughout Somerset.
Our partnership with the NHS and Primary Care employers continues to go from strength to strength and, together, our vision is to build on our experience with the Nursing Associate pilot to develop and deliver more Nursing education across Somerset.
To this end, we are delighted to have been recommended for approval by the NMC to deliver nursing degree pathways.
The first of these exciting new opportunities is for up to 38 new colleagues to join the NHS as Adult or Mental Health Nursing Degree Apprentices. Learners will be employed by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and will be studying a Nursing degree, validated by UWE Bristol, at University Centre Somerset's Taunton campus.
The closing date for applications was Sunday 18 July 2021, please complete the enquiry form here if you would like to recieve updates on future opportunities.
University Centre Somerset's ambition is to gain approval from the NMC to expand the Nursing degree opportunities available in Somerset, with the Apprenticeship offer being joined by full-time Degree programmes from autumn 2022. If you are considering a career in Nursing but don’t currently hold relevant qualifications, we encourage you to apply for a one-year Access to HE Diploma, available at our Taunton campus in September. This course is designed to equip learners with the skills required for university-level study and provides a seamless pathway to the degree programmes offered at UCS.
