How will University Centre Somerset consider the impact of school closures on applicants taking their qualifications in 2021?

We know that students applying this year have faced disruption to their education and we are taking this into account as we assess applications to our courses. We know that you may be uncertain about the results that you will achieve in the summer, and we want to reassure you that we will continue to show flexibility wherever possible to ensure that all those who have the potential to succeed at University Centre Somerset are able to do so. We encourage all students to engage actively with both in school/college and remote learning where this is provided.

We also know that it may be very difficult to complete traditional work experience, so we won’t be making this a compulsory part of assessment for 2021 entry. We will look for examples in your application of relevant values, commitment to the vocation and an understanding of the professional area. You could reflect on other experiences in your personal life, extra-curricular activities or wider understanding of the subject (e.g. virtual taster sessions or wider reading) to evidence this in your personal statement.

Can I visit the campus?

Depending on government guidance, we hope to provide opportunities for applicants and offer holders to join us on campus tours from Spring 2021.

In the meantime, as our campuses are currently closed to external visitors, we have scheduled a series of live online Q&A sessions in the new year.
