Following the workshop fire at the Bridgwater campus in February, we are grateful to Wiltshire College for offering the use of their facilities to UCS motorsport students so they are able to complete important modules on time.
While the impact of the fire on our students has been minimised by relocating to other automotive workshops across our own campuses, there are some specialist resources and equipment unique to motorsport that can’t be easily or quickly replaced or replicated. So, students have spent some time at Wiltshire College’s motorsport facility at Castle Combe using their Cylinder Head Flow Test Bench and Motorsport transmission systems.
Course Leader, Josh Smith, says,

First year students have visited their campus twice for use of facilities whilst we have also visited with the second years to have a guest lecture from Mark Bailey of Mark Bailey Racing."
The BTC and UCS Motorsport team has a UK-wide reputation for building and tuning high-performance racing cars. It’s with great pride that they race, and win, at some of the greatest circuits in the UK. This experience supports our students to go onto some fantastic destinations from Formula 1 to rally teams and into advanced engineering roles in the motorsport supply chain.
The College is working on plans to rebuild the Bridgwater campus facilities back to a world-class standard and will continue to provide updates on the plans and progress.
