UCS is getting Race Ready!

UCS Motorsport students are getting ready to race their team car

University Centre Somerset’s Motorsport Engineering Degree trains students to become highly qualified engineers. This is achieved using amazing facilities including: a CAD suite, wind tunnel, CNC and machine shop, and more. But something that really makes this course stand out is the Motorsport racing team.

The team is made up of first and second-year students from the degree programme and overseen by Thomas Bull, programme leader. Together, they are working to get the new race car, Esme, out on the track. Esme is a custom built, green Caterham 7, previously the development car of RLM.

The team will begin racing in the new year, at which point they will also reveal the team’s driver. While they won’t be committing to a full series, they are hoping to enter rounds of The Castle Coombe Sport GT series, the Mag 7 Caterham Cup, and the MSVR All-Comers series.

They are also aiming to enter Phoe Phoe, a white MX-5, in Formula G (the UK’s Gymkhana series). The team are working hard over the off-season to get it up and running in time for the first event around March time.

Keep an eye out for updates from us in the new year! Plus, learn more about the Motorsport Engineering Foundation Degree here.
