Equality and Diversity

At University Centre Somerset, we strongly believe that diversity and inclusion are key drivers of success. By recruiting and promoting individuals from all equality groups to positions of responsibility, and by engaging with students from all backgrounds at all levels of the curriculum, we are able to create a more inclusive and supportive environment that benefits everyone involved. We recognise the value that diversity brings to our organisation, and we strive to ensure that all individuals have equal opportunities to contribute and excel.

The Equality & Diversity Policy demonstrates our commitment to equal opportunity for all those working and studying at University Centre Somerset, part of Bridgwater & Taunton College. This policy applies at all times to staff, students, customers and suppliers. All users have the right to be treated equally, with dignity and respect and without being subjected to discrimination.

Antisemitism

University Centre Somerset endorses the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s ‘working definition’ of antisemitism, which reads as follows:

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

Freedom of Expression

This endorsement is complimented by our ongoing commitment to uphold the statutory duty to protect freedom of expression under Section 43 of the Education (No. 2) Act (1986).

Our Equality & Diversity Annual Report summarises key actions that we have taken towards the achievement of equality & diversity during the last academic year. For more information about equality, diversity, and inclusion, see our Policies and Regulations.
