University Centre Somerset welcomed some exciting new arrivals over the weekend, with the delivery of three capybaras to its Animal Management Centre, Cannington campus.
Native to South America, capybaras are the largest living rodents in the world. These herbivorous animals are well known for their love of water, and their social and famously relaxed nature.
The trio, Mac, Nugget, and Frenchie (named after McDonalds food), are brand new to the Animal Management Centre and have already settled in perfectly. Since their arrival, their confidence has grown quickly, with the capybaras enjoying a gentle scratch and even being hand-fed by staff. Their favourite food is squashy sweet potatoes or bananas.
The three of them are like dustbins and will eat anything, but the students absolutely love them!

Capybaras are a fantastic addition to UCS, which already has over 300 species for the students to work with and learn from.
