University Centre Somerset (UCS) is planning to expand its higher education offering from September 2027, with two exciting new courses designed to open up more opportunities for people aspiring to careers in nursing, health and care.
The proposed BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy degree and Foundation Programme for Professions in Health and Social Care will offer new routes into rewarding healthcare careers, including opportunities for those who do not currently hold the qualifications required for direct entry to a degree.
BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists make a real difference to people’s lives, supporting individuals of all ages to overcome challenges, develop independence and participate in everyday activities.
The proposed BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy degree will provide a new opportunity to pursue this rewarding career through higher education at UCS, supporting the development of skilled healthcare professionals for Somerset and beyond.
Foundation Programme for Professions in Health and Social Care
For those who aspire to a career in Nursing or Occupational Therapy but don’t currently meet the entry requirements for degree-level study, UCS is also planning to introduce a new foundation programme.
Designed as a preparatory year of study, the Foundation Programme for Professions in Health and Social Care will help students develop the academic knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress towards the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or Nursing degree programmes, subject to meeting the relevant progression requirements.
The programme will provide an alternative route into higher education for those who may have taken a different educational pathway or are considering returning to study.
Together, these new courses reflect UCS’s commitment to widening access to higher education, providing career-focused qualifications and supporting the future health and social care workforce.
