Sculpting with the Stars: UCS attend The Prosthetics Event

University Centre Somerset Media Make-up staff and students attend The Prosthetics Event 2022.

University Centre Somerset staff and students have travelled up the M5 to Coventry for The Prosthetics Event. The annual event is described as an ‘epic day of learning, shopping and networking for people passionate about prosthetics, mad about media make-up and curious about creatures!’

As well as being used heavily in film and TV, creative prosthetics are also found in theatre, live events, cosplay, tourist attractions, casualty simulation and many more places besides. Some of the skills involved include animatronics, sculpture, mould making, hair punching, prosthetic application, painting and finishing.

UCS Media Make-up was among the exhibitors showing make-up applications at the event. Recent graduate Sharn Sheridan demonstrated her demon possession make-up using silicone prosthetics. Lowri James (Class of 2020) created a stunning "Avant Garde" look using body paint and a headpiece.

Industry professionals in attendance included Neill Gorton, Adrian Rigby, Stuart Bray, Kate Benton, and double Academy Award winner Kazu Hiro. The UCS students enjoyed the chance to meet, network with, and watch the experts complete incredible make-up looks while learning new tips and tricks about prosthetics.

The students came away feeling inspired for their own projects, with the Prosthetics Event giving them ideas around how to carry out their own designs.
